Scollinare 2008 (selected works)

eng – The Scollinare project, with more than 300 images (6×7 film), retraces winter landscapes in the hilly area close to Bologna. For this series I worked on a presentation that showed one stage of the research, the unfinished, rejecting the formal completeness of the single image. The installation refers to a phase in which the images are still scattered on the table, creating sets and subsets, coming together, dividing: inevitably one thinks of a book. Installed on the wall I display work “tables” in a reasoned phase, once the selection was already made. The images are posted with pins so that the photograph becomes a loose page from a non-existent book.

ita – Il progetto Scollinare, con più di 300 scatti (negativo 6×7), ripercorre paesaggi invernali nella zona collinare adiacente a Bologna. Per questa serie ho lavorato ad una presentazione che mostrasse uno stadio di ricerca, il non finito, respingendo la compiutezza formale della singola immagine. L’installazione rimanda a una fase in cui le immagini sono ancora sparse sul tavolo, si creano insiemi e sottoinsiemi, si riuniscono, si dividono, inevitabilmente si pensa ad un libro. Installati a parete espongo “tavoli” di lavoro in una fase ragionata, a selezione già avvenuta. Le immagini sono appese con puntine così che la fotografia divenga pagina libera di un libro inesistente.

LA Look

LA Look 2009 – 2010 (selected images)

eng – LA Look is an expression that appeared in the early sixties to describe a series of attitudes and trends that characterized the city of Los Angeles. The expression is charged with a wide range of meanings and speaks of the different faces of the city: LA is the realm of the image.

The photographic work presented in this series observes aspect of urban nature in the city, capturing the processes modifying an originally desert land, today characterized by rapid urban expansion. In this setting, nature bursts in, spontaneous and unexpected.

ita – LA Look è un’espressione che compare all’inizio degli anni Sessanta per descrivere una serie di attitudini e tendenze che caratterizzano la città di Los Angeles. E’ un’espressione che si carica di moltissimi significati, e che parla delle diverse facce della città: LA è il regno dell’immagine.

Il lavoro fotografico presentato in questa serie osserva situazioni di natura urbana nella città, cogliendo processi di modificazione di un territorio originariamente desertico, oggi caratterizzato da una rapida espansione urbanistica. In questo contesto la natura irrompe, spontanea e inaspettata.

Neon 2012

eng – Neon is a structure made up of a wooden frame (240 x 120 cm) with lights powered by a generator set within its inner perimeter. It is designed to be folded on itself and easily portable. This project is a research into the subject and the composition of the image with references to the painter’s canvas. The content inscribed in the structure tends towards abstraction. Neon has been installed in different landscapes and photographed in total darkness at night, illuminating the scene.

ita – Neon è una struttura costituita da un telaio in legno (240 x 120 cm) nel cui perimetro interno sono fissate delle luci alimentate da un generatore; è pensato per poter essere ripiegato su se stesso e facilmente trasportato. Questo progetto è una ricerca sul soggetto e sulla composizione dell’immagine con rimandi alla tela del pittore, e in cui il contenuto inscritto nella struttura tende all’astrazione. Neon è stato installato in diversi paesaggi e fotografato nel buio totale delle ore notturne, illuminando la scena.

BackPack 2010

eng – BackPack is a rectangular folding photographer’s studio made of wood and cardboard (120x120x240 cm). It can be strapped on like a backpack and then assembled quickly on the ground with screws and adhesive tape. The structure lacks a base, so that part of the landscape can be inscribed inside it, remaining unchanged. The light spreads through a window of white paper, and the walls are painted black. The subjects of this series, set in the Joshua Tree National Park in California, become still lifes, portrayed as if they were in a photographer’s studio.

ita – BackPack è uno studio fotografico pieghevole di forma rettangolare costruito in legno e cartone (120x120x240 cm), si porta in spalla come uno zaino e si assembla rapidamente a terra con viti e scotch. La struttura è priva della base, così che una porzione di paesaggio possa essere inscritta al suo interno, restando inalterata. La luce diffonde attraverso una finestra di carta bianca, e le pareti sono dipinte di nero. I soggetti di questa serie, ambientata nel Joshua Tree National Park in California, diventano nature morte ritratte come se si trovassero in uno studio fotografico.
